What initially drew you to the construction industry?

Construction wasn’t just a career path for Jacob; it was part of his upbringing.

“Construction has been a major part of my life as far back as I can remember. My dad has been operating a small welding business for 40 years. Construction became a way of life.”

From an early age, Jacob was immersed in the realities of building, learning firsthand the pride that comes from creating something tangible. By the age of 12, he was already working in concrete during the summers—an experience that would shape his future.

“I started my concrete adventures at 12 years old… not knowing it would turn into the passion I would follow for my career.”

What keeps him passionate today is the challenge. Concrete work offers little room for error—precision, timing, and execution all must align.

“There’s one shot to do your job right… and the hard work it takes to do it is the best part.”

What motivates you to do your best every day?

For Jacob, motivation isn’t external, it’s internal.

“My biggest motivator is wanting to be better than the person I was yesterday.”

This mindset is especially valuable in the construction industry, where every project presents new challenges. His approach is rooted in growth, learning from mistakes, and continuously improving both technically and as a leader. That daily commitment to progress aligns closely with ECS’s focus on performance, accountability, and long-term development across its teams.

What inspired you to pursue field leadership?

Leadership came naturally to Jacob, but it was also something he intentionally pursued.

“I’ve always loved helping others and leading the way by teaching the skills I’ve learned to my team.”

From building with LEGO blocks as a kid to managing complex concrete operations, the core driver has remained the same: creating, teaching, and improving. Field leadership allows Jacob to combine technical expertise with mentorship, helping crews succeed while ensuring projects meet high standards.

What do you enjoy most about working on-site?

Jacob thrives in the field—literally.

“I have never been one to like being locked inside all day… I’ve always seen myself as an ‘outside pet.’”

Being on-site allows him to stay hands-on, solve problems in real time, and support crews directly. In concrete construction in particular, conditions change quickly, and strong field leadership is essential to maintaining quality and efficiency.

“Having a good crew is what gets the job done fast and efficiently.”

What skills and experiences prepared you for this role?

Jacob’s background spans multiple trades, giving him a well-rounded perspective that’s invaluable as a superintendent.

“From concrete to structural steel, windows to framework… the many areas I have been a part of have helped me become the leader I work at becoming better at every day.”

This cross-functional experience allows him to anticipate challenges before they arise and understand how each phase of construction impacts the next. He also emphasizes the importance of starting from the ground up, literally.

“You can’t be at the top if you don’t understand the bottom.”

That foundation, built through years of hands-on work, gives him credibility with crews and confidence in decision-making.

What does great teamwork look like on a job site?

For Jacob, great teamwork starts with communication.

“Communicating is key on a construction site.”

A successful project isn’t just about individual performance; it’s about how well a team works together, understands each other’s strengths, and supports one another.

“No one person can be perfect at every job… that’s why it takes a team to get a project done right.”

This philosophy aligns closely with ECS’s team-first culture, where collaboration drives results and safety remains a top priority.

What excites you most about joining ECS?

Even in his early days with the company, Jacob has already felt the impact of the team culture.

“I’ve found myself being accepted as part of this growing team… the support all members show for each other is huge.”

He sees ECS as a place where people are valued, teamwork is prioritized, and growth is encouraged.

“Becoming something great doesn’t happen without the right people in the right places.”

Looking ahead, Jacob is focused on strengthening his leadership skills and contributing to the company’s continued success.

How do you approach challenges in the field?

In construction, challenges are inevitable. Jacob doesn’t avoid them—he leans into them.

“Each one is going to be a learning experience… without challenges there would be no growth.”

This perspective is critical in fast-paced environments like commercial concrete construction, where adaptability and problem-solving directly impact timelines and outcomes.
